Subsidies for civil servants
As the employer, the City of Hamburg covers part of civil servants’ expenses resulting from illness, long-term care, childbirth, and death. However, this subsidy is merely intended to supplement the individual provisions that civil servants are expected to make. The general insurance obligation requires extra provisions to cover the remaining expenses. This can be partial private health insurance (to supplement the subsidy), or full statutory or private health insurance. If you have voluntary statutory coverage or the appropriate level of private insurance, you may qualify for a flat-rate health insurance subsidy (pauschale Beihilfe) to cover your health insurance costs.
