Support For Supervisors And Managers
Dealing with staff whose behavior and actions suggest psychological disorder or addiction often poses a great challenge for superiors. Questions and uncertainties arise as to how best to cope with both the situation and the employee, and whether speaking to them about the problem may aggravate the situation.
Also, it is important to keep an eye on colleagues of the employee. This does not come easy, however, if one colleague attracts a lot of attention due to changes in their behavior. Furthermore, supervisors must address their own feelings in such situations, e.g., anger, annoyance, or helplessness.
As a supervisor you must not feel pressured to solve these situations on your own; often this is hardly possible because you are “far too involved.” In this case professional counseling or coaching may offer you great support in facing this workplace challenge with confidence.
