- University-specific English courses for staff members: English courses at all levels, specially designed for the University’s work.
- Custom language courses for day-to-day work: HR advice for expanding specific English vocabulary or to expand German proficiency as well as other languages.
- Erasmus language trips: Refresh or expand your foreign language proficiency with certified language courses and paid educational leave.
- Additional languages and language courses available from the University Language Center: Advanced language courses at the University Language Center, as well as beginner’s courses in cooperation with the adult education center

Have international conversations or learn more about special topics without traveling far? There are many ways you can do it:
- Hamburg Networking Conference (HNC): Multiday conference with international university partners on current topics in education and research. Held every 2 years at University of Hamburg.
- Additional formats: Various events offered by HR on a range of topics.
- Next Generation Partnerships (NGP)—Workshops and Conferences: Funding program for setting up thematic workshops and conferences with multiple partner universities with the goal of building and expanding multilateral networks.
- Strategic partnerships: Knowledge exchange on your specializations with colleagues at partner universities.

International experience
Learn, understand, experience: develop your personal and professional skills with international training options.
- Erasmus staff training weeks: 3–5 day program at universities involved in the Erasmus program. Depending on the organization, specific topics with a specific target group or program with a broad range of topics.
- Erasmus job shadowing: Self-organized stays at a partner university, to get to see how your own field (e.g., administrative units, faculties, library systems, or computer centers) is handled at the partner university.
- Trilateral staff development and exchange program (TriStaX): Annual one-week exchange program with the strategic partner Northwestern University (NW), Stellenbosch University (SU) and University of Hamburg on variety of topics. Conducted annually at the partner institution on a rotational cycle.
- Individual opportunities for exchange: Individually organized stays at a partner university paid from the budget of the faculty or organization sending the individual. Contact the relevant country representative in Department 5.
