Contact the Department of International Affairs if you have any general questions concerning international cooperation. A contact person is assigned to each faculty. In addition, you can also view staff members’ region-specific or country-specific expertise on the website.
Department of Research Management and Funding
The Department of Research Management and Funding will advise you on the following:
- specific research plans and projects
- external-funding applications and contracts
- using research infrastructure
- copyright law in connection with research activities
- handling samples of biological material subject to the Convention on Biological Diversity and, in particular, the Nagoya Protocol (available in German only)
Department of International Affairs
The Department of International Affairs provides advice on the following topics:
- coordinating the drafting and signing process for international cooperation agreements
- international cooperations
- international cooperation agreements
- country-specific information
- in-depth reviews
- admitting scholars at risk
Export and Custom Control Unit
The Export and Custom Control Unit provides advice on the following topics:
- foreign trade law and export control
- sanctions list checks
- imports from outside the EU into the EU

Information Security and Data Protection Competence Network
The Information Security and Data Protection Competence Network (available in German only) advises you on the following topics:
- data protection-compliant processing of personal data, especially for transfers from or to countries outside the EU
Regional Computing Center (RRZ)
The Regional Computing Center at Universität Hamburg (RRZ) is responsible for a number of IT-services of all units. You can find an overview of of their serviced areas here.
Knowledge Exchange Agency
The Knowledge Exchange Agency provides advice and support in relation to the following topics:
- collaboration with international companies and industry
- representation of Universität Hamburg with regard to the exploitation of intellectual property rights
- cooperations in which knowledge, applications, or products are transfered into or out of the University
- questions on secrecy of information
