Other options to internationalize a doctoral degree

A number of graduate programs at Universität Hamburg are built together with partners abroad around a particular research agenda. This option has the benefit of being established programs that will reduce the administrative load on the doctoral student while offering them international experience at a number of universities tied to the project. The downside is then that these programs focus on a particular field of research and are less flexible as to where and with whom the doctoral student studies when compared with a traditional joint doctorates.
